A care worker who witnesses and supports clients and community members through life and reproductive transitions. They may offer physical, emotional, information, and/or advocacy support. While doulas often serve in or alongside the medical environment, they are not medical professionals and do not perform any medical assessments, treatment, or advice.
A doula is a non-medical support person who focuses on caring for you emotionally and physically, and helps you to feel informed and empowered. While they often have similar approaches, a midwife differs from a doula in a very large way. A midwife is a *medical* professional, meaning that the primary focus of their care is on the health and safety of you and your baby. Both doulas and midwives work with you prenatally, support you throughout the birth and follow up with you postpartum.
The earlier the better! Typically, the beginning of your third trimester is a good timeframe to have your doula secured by. We recommended that you talk to and interview a couple of doulas and really determine who is the best fit for you.
Hiring a doula earlier is beneficial for establishing a trusting relationship and feeling unconditionally supported through this process.
Not all, but most, clients have a support person throughout their pregnancy experience. However, our clients have found that their support person is more involved in the process when they have a Doula to guide them on ways to offer support.
I attend all types of births including home births, birth center births, and hospital births. I strive to make myself available to create the birth experience that my clients want.
As a Full-Spectrum Doula, I offer services that offer support for my clients from conception to up to a year postpartum. With an understanding that every-body is different, I work with families to ensure what support is needed.
For labor and delivery, I am available during the entire duration whether in the space with laboring parents, or assisting with various tasks needed.
At this time, I do not accept insurance, but I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
